Barry Winata

Founding Partner


Barry is a seasoned technology leader, investor, and operator with over a decade of experience spanning Silicon Valley and Australia. He is the Founder and Managing Partner of Metagrove Ventures, an early-stage venture capital fund dedicated to supporting founders and companies, particularly those building a bridge between the Asia-Pacific region and Silicon Valley.

His professional background includes technology leadership, engineering, product management, strategy, growth, and operations. Throughout his career, he contributed to engineering and product management at Skylo Technologies, a SoftBank-backed company, and played a significant part in Sensity Systems, which was later acquired by Verizon, where he led and managed embedded and cloud engineering teams during his tenure. It was during these roles that provided him with deep exposure to working and understanding the role technology would play in shaping legacy industries such as logistics, supply chain, construction, and many others. 

His experience also includes engineering and operations at BAE Systems, as well as work at Cochlear and Australia’s leading research institute, CSIRO, involved specifically with high-voltage and energy research.

He is the host of the Prompt Podcast, where he engages with founders, industry leaders, and disruptors to share insights and stories from the tech world. Additionally, he writes a weekly newsletter, Alpha Bytes, that provides weekly news and insights around technology and innovation.

Barry graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Honors), and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business (Economics/Finance) from the University of Technology, Sydney
